About Kikkou-nuri
The Kikkou-nuri technique takes its name from the Japanese word 亀甲 (Kikkou), meaning “turtle shell.” This method involves carving the pen’s surface and layering it with multiple coats of Urushi lacquer to create a final design that mirrors the intricate beauty of a turtle shell.
When paired with Akatame-nuri and Midoritame-nuri techniques, the result is an extraordinary pattern that seamlessly blends tradition and innovation. These techniques unexpectedly complement one another, producing a distinctive, visually striking finish that stands as a testament to the artistry of Japanese craftsmanship.
